Privacy Pledge
Everyone who works at Our Science Fair is a parent of one or more
school-aged children. So we understand, better than most, the importance
of online security and privacy especially when it comes to our schools and our
kids. To summarize our policy in two sentences:
We will never use any of your information, your school's information, or your
students' information for any purpose that is not directly related to serving
you and helping you to host a fantastic science fair for your school. We
also do not, under any circumstances, give your information away or sell it to
anyone.
Specific details about our privacy pledge are included below, and are written in
plain English so that you won't need a lawyer to make sense of it.
Your School's Account Information:
- When you create an Our Science Fair account for your school, you will
provide some information about yourself (name, email, etc.) as the science fair
coordinator. You will also provide some information about your school
(name of school, address, phone number, number of students, website URL,
passwords to access your Our Science Fair account, etc.). Finally,
you will provide some information about your science fair (date of fair, project
display board delivery settings, sale prices of project display boards, etc.).
This section concerns all of this information, and is collectively referred to
as "your school's account information".
- Your school's account information is accessible to you (the science fair
coordinator) and anyone else with whom
you choose to share the coordinator password.
- Your school's account information (but not your password) is
accessible to a small number of Our Science Fair staff members. We
use this information only for the purpose of serving you and helping you to host
a fantastic science fair for your school. We will access it when you call
or email us for customer support. We also access it periodically to
provide you (the science fair coordinator) with reminders and updates related to
our service and your science fair (see below).
- Your school's account information will never be made accessible to any third
parties (unless you explicitly choose to share the coordinator password with them).
This includes students at your school, parents of the students at your school,
teachers and staff at your school, other schools, or your school district.
- As part of your school's account, your school will receive a personalized URL
(e.g., http://yourschool.oursciencefair.com) which hosts several web pages
related to your science fair -- student registration, photo upload, etc.
This URL is also considered part of your school's account information, and is
not made public or shared with any third parties. By default, search
engines (e.g., Google, Bing, Yahoo, Ask, etc.) will not be able to discover this
URL, and therefore your school's Our Science Fair website will not be
presented in the search results. Once, however, you include this URL as a
link from your own school's website (as is recommended), then it is publicly
accessible to anyone, including search engines.
- Periodically, Our Science Fair will send you (the science fair coordinator)
email messages containing announcements, reminders, and other information.
Typically these email messages are directly related to the science fair at your
school. But occasionally, we may also send marketing email to promote our
services. However, it will always be possible for you to opt out of the
marketing-related emails.
Student Registration Information:
- When students and their parents register for the science fair through your
school's Our Science Fair website, they will be providing certain
information about themselves. Our Science Fair stores this
information in our database. This information may include the student's
name, the parents' names, the student's grade level and teacher, the title of
the science project, the parents' email addresses, etc. This section
concerns all of this information, and is collectively referred to as "student
registration information".
- Student registration information is accessible to you (the science fair
coordinator) and anyone else with whom
you choose to share the coordinator password.
- Student registration information is also accessible to teachers and staff at
your school who have been given the "teacher password".
- Student registration information is
accessible to a small number of Our Science Fair staff members. We use
this information only for the purpose of serving you and helping you to host a
fantastic science fair for your school. We will access it when you call or
email us for customer support. We also access it to fulfill online
orders for science fair supplies. On rare occasions, we may use it to send
a bulk email to all of the students and parents who are registered for your
science fair, if it is deemed important and pertains directly to your science
fair.
- Student registration information will never be made accessible to any third
parties (unless you explicitly choose to share the coordinator password or teacher
password with them).
This includes other students at your school, parents of the other students at your school,
other schools, or your school district.
- When parents purchase science fair supplies through the same website, they may
be providing their credit card numbers and billing addresses. This
information is not considered part of "student registration information".
It is therefore not accessible to the science fair coordinator or teachers, and
certainly not accessible to any third parties. It may be accessible only
to a limited number of Our Science Fair staff members, and only for the
purpose of completing the billing process.
- As the science fair coordinator, you have the ability to send a bulk email
message to all or any subset of the students and parents who have registered for
your science fair. The content of these emails is restricted to that which
is specifically related to your science fair. The staff at Our Science
Fair has access to the content of all email that is sent in this way through
our system.
- On rare occasions, staff at Our Science Fair may also send a bulk email
to all of the students and parents who are registered for your science fair.
In general, however, we try to avoid this. One example when this may
become necessary is if not enough parents have uploaded photos in order for us
to produce a digital slide show. In that case, we may send an email to all
parents inviting them and reminding them to upload photos of their students
working on their science projects, so that we are sure we have enough content to
be able to produce your slide show.
